Fastjet is a multi-award-winning African low-cost airline that began flight operations in 2012. Its awards include, Leading African Low-Cost Carrier World Travel Awards 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, and Skytrax World Airline Awards Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa 2017. Dedicated to making air travel in Africa more affordable, accessible and reliable, it is the best airline to help you explore southern Africa. Since commencing operations fastjet has flown over 3,5 million passengers and has established itself as a punctual, reliable, and affordable low-cost carrier.
Fastjet currently operates Embraer 145 aircraft on the southern African routes. These aircraft offer a seat choice of either a window or aisle seat. This eye-catching fleet can easily be seen in the distance owing to their distinct parrot logo and touches of bright red and yellow on the aircrafts' wings and engines.
Each customer is allowed to carry ONLY one item of cabin baggage free of charge. It should weigh no more than 7 kg with maximum dimensions of 55 x 35 x 20 cm.
In addition, a small handbag or personal item may also be taken on board provided it does not exceed 40 x 30 x 15 cm. It must be placed under the seat directly in front of you. Customers travelling with infants may also take a small bag containing immediate use items with them.
Should any cabin baggage exceed the dimensions mentioned above, it will be checked in and charged as hold baggage at airport prices.
Checked baggage is NOT included in the price of your fastjet ticket when purchasing a BigSaver fare product but is included in the Achiever fare product. It may include but is not limited to suitcases, baby buggies, rucksacks, tents and any mobility equipment such as, wheelchairs, mobility aid devices and walking frames. It must be checked in at the airport before departure.
If you will be travelling with a lot of luggage, we suggest booking the Achiever fare which includes one free checked bag.
If you would prefer to book the BigSaver fare, which doesn't include checked baggage, you can always add it as a travel extra.
Fastjet baggage allowances
• On most fastjet routes each customer is allowed to book up to 2 bags of 23 kg each.
• If your bag exceeds 23 kg, you will be charged extra for each additional kg.
• On all Mozambique routes each customer is allowed to bring only 1 bag with a total weight of 23 kg.
• On the Harare-Johannesburg route each customer is allowed to book up to 1 bag of 30 kg each.
• For safety reasons, no single item can exceed 32 kg or a combined dimension of 81 x 119 x 119 cm.
• Pre-book your baggage online (up to one hour prior to your flight departure), through the Call Centre or at a fastjet shop and pay half price.
• There is NO refund or partial payment if your bag weighs less than what was purchased.
• Sports and music equipment is not accepted as normal baggage and will be charged at the corresponding price. As space is limited it is advised that you pre-book sport or music equipment.
• Travel systems (baby stroller or pram) and up to two mobility aids fly FREE OF CHARGE.
Visit the fastjet Fees and Charges section for a comprehensive breakdown of these costs.
Fastjet now allows customers to travel with Smart Bags provided the lithium battery is disconnected and removed at the check-in counter, and the bag adheres to size and weight restrictions mentioned above. The battery must then be carried with you into the aircraft cabin. For safety reasons, if you are unable to remove the battery fastjet won't accept it for carriage. This is in line with IATA rules.
Fastjet check-in desks open two hours before the scheduled departure time and close exactly 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time. You will need to provide proof of identification and your credit card (if it was used to pay for the booking) at check-in.
The airline does not at this stage offer online check-in.
If you arrive at the check-in desk late (less than 40 minutes before departure) you will be denied boarding. Fastjet tickets are non-refundable in the event of late arrival or when you are unable to fly due to personal circumstances. Fastjet will consider refunding a customer in the event of the death of an immediate family member or should they be hospitalised. Documentation proving such will need to be summited along with the refund request.
Food and Refreshments
Fastjet offers a full in-flight menu to keep you refreshed on-board their domestic and international flights. Hot, cold and alcoholic drinks are available as well as a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. Onboard food and beverages are NOT included in your ticket.
Each fastjet customer will find the latest copy of Fastjet Places Magazine in the chair slip in the front of them. In many cases, newspapers are also provided at the airport for reading pleasure.
Mobile phones and any device using wireless data services can be used when at cruising altitude, only if the flight safe mode is enabled. Cabin crew will advise when these items can and cannot be used.
