Estonia is considered a safe country. However, petty theft and scams do happen, so you should still use common sense and remain vigilant throughout your stay. Travel insurance to cover theft and medical expenses is recommended.
Avoid carrying large sums of cash and valuables, as pick-pocketing and muggings do happen. Old Town in Tallinn is a hotspot for thieves. Avoid wandering through poorly lit areas and parks at night (particularly Kopli and Lasnamäe). Make use of licensed taxis at night and ensure the driver uses a meter. You should familiarise yourself with the local laws and customs before arriving in Estonia.
Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required if you are arriving from an infected area. If you plan to spend time outdoors (i.e. hiking) a vaccination for tick-borne encephalitis is recommended. Take precautions to avoid bug bites. Immunisation against hepatitis A & B and rabies is recommended. Other routine vaccinations include MMR, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, varicella, polio and influenza.
